Pacific Palisades,
a coastal community founded in the 1920's by the Camp Meeting and
Chautauqua Assn. lies between Santa Monica and Malibu. The Palisades
(as locals refer to their town) has a population of approximately
24,000.
Pacific Palisades
postal zip code is 90272, is home to the J.Paul Getty Villa, Self
Realization Lake Shrine, Temescal Canyon Mountain Gateway Park,
Will Rogers State Historical Park. On the east, Pacific Palisades
borders Mandeville Canyon, and on the west, Malibu. Set above the
beach on bluffs or palisades, much of the area commands breathtaking
ocean views.
The Palisades
has an ideal climate. The Temescal Canyon Assn. hosts wonderful
hikes, day and evening, the town has two public parks with at least
16 tennis courts, night-lit at Palisades Park.
The annual Fourth
of July Palisades Americanism Parade and 10K are extremely well
attended. The Palisades has its own weekly community paper the Palisadian-Post
(circulation approx. 19,000).
The beach-side
bicycle path is also host to joggers and roller-bladers, and begins
approximately at Pacific Coast Highway and Temescal Canyon Road
and continues to Redondo Beach (approximately 20 miles) via Marina
Del Rey.
Marquez Knolls,
developed by the Lachman family, is renowned for the dramatic views
and its strong homeowner's association.
The bluff area
just west of the J.Paul Getty Villa (to re-open in 2001) is called
Sunset Mesa, an area thought by some to be part of Los Angeles,
but is, in fact, Malibu. The schools are Malibu schools, the services
are Los Angeles county services.
